Reviews
I’ve been coming to Epic Desserts since it was Epic cookies and it was the absolute best cookies in the world, 5 stars. What made them special were the specialty cookies and variety you can’t get anywhere else with such great taste! Every week it would be exciting to see what new flavors were coming next and honestly it’s a great way to keep you coming back. Since reopening as epic desserts, I’ve noticed a huge dip in quality overall. They don’t always have specialty cookies and even when they do, it seems like they’re just putting anything out as far as quality. A cookie might be underbaked, overbaked, dry. The quality just isn’t as consistent as it used to be. Most recently the cornbread cookie which was one of our favorites in the past had a strange, chemically aftertaste and we had to throw it out. I thought it was just me but when my teenage son ran to me disappointed asking if he could throw it out, I knew it was the cookie. Also the girls working there aren’t as friendly or welcoming as the past ones usually were and it’s not like the store is busy. I write this review with hopes that the feedback will get this place back to the standards and quality it had before. It’s what made this place so special and it would be unfortunate to see what made this business special, disappear. For me personally, this dip in quality will definitely help me stay away from sweets because Epic Cookies as it used to be, was my weakness.
If I could give 10 stars I will. No one leaves this establishment unimpressed or unsatisfied. There is a sweet treat for every taste bud there is. I was sold with the amazing cookies and new flavors every month... Now there are desserts galoreee cheesecakes, pastries and ice cream oh my! But it doesn't stop there, they make personalized cakes for every occasion. I've ordered cakes for a retirement party and a pool party and it's been such a hit! You get way more than you pay for in taste and experience! The staff is so welcoming and pleasant, they treat everyone like family with a warm smile and the store is always clean despite the line being almost outside the door most days! There is no better name for this store but EPIC!!!
Surprisingly really good coffee and espresso. I had a lattè and a lemon ricotta baked good the other morning and it gave the local coffee shops a run for their money. Good looking barista too. Friendly atmosphere, good vibes.
I have been a loyal customer since this business was Epic Cookies, so I truly wanted to leave a glowing review. I visited on Friday, May 15, and everything was excellent. The cinnamon bun was honestly better than Cinnabon, the brownies were amazing, and the donuts were flavorful and fresh. I was so impressed that I returned the very next day. Unfortunately, Saturday’s visit was completely different. The cinnamon bun was misshapen, dry, and lacked the flavor I enjoyed the day before. Even the display items looked unappealing, and the service was subpar. The inconsistency was disappointing, especially after such a great experience on Friday. Because of the poor service and inconsistent quality, I have to give a hard 2 stars. The employees would benefit from better training, and the product quality needs to be more consistent. I hope the owner or manager sees this review and takes it as constructive feedback from a loyal customer who genuinely wants the business to do well. I will return again, hoping to experience the same quality and service I received on Friday.
Upon arriving in Somerville, I was fortunate to find street parking directly in front of the store. I quickly ran inside to place my order. After a lovely chat with the friendly employee, I selected the following specialty cookies: Strawberry Cheesecake, Lava Love, Linzer, and Dark Chocolate Pistachio. Once home, I shared the cookies with my husband, and here’s our take on them—though it's worth noting that all of them were absolutely delicious! Our top pick was the Dark Chocolate Pistachio. The balance of dark chocolate chunks and pistachios was perfect, with generous portions of both. The dark chocolate wasn’t overly sweet, making it an ideal complement to the salty pistachios—just the right combination of flavors. In second place were the Lava Love and Linzer cookies. For those who love dark chocolate, Lava Love is a must-try! While in the store, I asked which was sweeter, the Lava Love or the Death by Chocolate. The employee mentioned that Death by Chocolate is the sweeter option. Last but certainly not least was the Strawberry Cheesecake cookie. The sugar cookie base, made with strawberry juice, was nice, but the real standout was the cheesecake topping. It had a subtle strawberry flavor, though I personally would have liked the strawberry taste to be a bit more pronounced to elevate the cookie further. Still, it was a great cookie overall—just my personal preference for a stronger flavor. Quick tip: If you’d like to save the cookies for a few more days, you can freeze them or store them in the refrigerator. To reheat, simply take them out, place them on parchment paper, and microwave on half power for about 20 seconds. Alternatively, you can use a toaster oven set to 350°F and bake for approximately 10 minutes. If you’re ever in the Somerville area, this place is a definite must-visit. They offer a wide range of treats, including ice cream (though not made in-house), classic and specialty cookies, custom cakes, milkshakes, and more.
