Let me start by saying I really like this YMCA. The gym is small and can get crowded at times, but it’s convenient, affordable, and has everything I need for a good workout. I come here often and overall have had a positive experience. My biggest concern, though, has been the number of teenagers/high school students who treat the gym more like a hangout spot than a workout space. There are often groups running around, yelling, throwing things, crowding machines, and generally not following basic gym etiquette. It can make the environment feel chaotic and uncomfortable for those of us just trying to exercise. I completely understand that the staff and trainers aren’t there to babysit, and I know this is a community space. But the level of disruption has gotten to the point where I find myself planning my workouts around hours when fewer teens are there. I’ve also spoken with other members who feel the same way. At other gyms I’ve attended, there seems to be more structure and decorum on the floor, which makes a big difference in the overall experience. I’m sharing this because I genuinely like this location and want it to be better. Are there any plans to set clearer rules, supervision, or time limits for large groups of teens so the gym can feel more comfortable for everyone? Thank you for all you do — I appreciate the facility and hope this feedback helps.

This YMCA keeps raising prices for the monthly membership while the experience keeps getting worse. The pool is constantly out of service, there’s only a sauna and no steam room, and the facility is just not well maintained overall. They spent over a year doing cosmetic repairs that added absolutely no real value for members. Pool out of service for a while. Most of the classes are a joke, especially for what they charge. For the monthly fee, you would expect a much higher standard. They have a 30 day cancellation policy, but in practice it’s clearly not respected properly.

I love the gym. There are a lot of weights, machines, and cardio equipment. The only downside is the parking lot is small. I did find street parking though not too far.

I swim at Somerville Y 4 days a week. The swimming pool is maintained very well. Temperature is always 84 degrees and very clean. The lap swim schedule is published and accurate. Overall, I have great experience with Somerville Y.

The place is a little old but has everything you need. 25 meter pool, 3 1/2 to 9 feet deep, adult and children locker rooms, gymnasium and gymnastics
